The John Muir Festival 2014

The John Muir Festival 2014 celebrates the life and legacy of pioneering conservationist John Muir and marks the opening of a new pathway: The John Muir Way, named in his honour.

Running from 17 - 26 April, this signature Homecoming Scotland event includes the spectacular opening of the monumental sculpture, The Kelpies in Falkirk, the official opening of the John Muir Way, community and artist-led performances and installations along the new trail from Dunbar to Helensburgh, and a firework finale at Loch Lomond.

Produced by UZ Arts, the John Muir Festival is funded by Scottish Natural Heritage, Homecoming Scotland, and Creative Scotland.

Sand Sculpture Competition

The annual Friends of John Muir's Birthplace Sand Sculpture Competition will be at EAST BEACH, Dunbar, 10am - 12 noon SATURDAY 10 AUGUST 2013. Prizes will be awarded so bring a bucket, spade and plenty of imagination. Proceeds from the entry fee help the Friends support the Birthplace: this year adults £2 each; child £1 and families £5.

The John Muir Trail
How can Dunbar make the most of this opportunity?

The John Muir Trail long-distance walking route will be opening in Spring 2014, linking Dunbar with Helensburgh on the West Coast. Alex Salmond has been promoting this nationally significant route in the US, and there is lots of potential to attract UK visitors too Are we ready?

The panel will include Ron McCraw from Scottish Natural Heritage and Keith Geddes, the architect of the Trail from the Central Scotland Green Network.

Workshops January to March 2013

When: Friday afternoons, 2 - 4.30 pm. Fortnightly from 11th January.
What: Activities and crafts for 5 years old and upwards.
Where: At John Muir's Birthplace or Dunbar Town Hosuse Museum and Gallery.
How: Book in advance in person at JMB, online or by phone. Charges apply: £3.10/child/session.

New Shop Stock
Our John Muir Trust Christmas cards, calendars and diaries are selling quickly and we also have some lovely new shop stock in for the festive season.  Gorgeous Fursbeck Pottery, earrings and brooches which would make lovely Xmas presents!!!  Also as from Saturday we will have lovely gifts from the ‘Green Gift Company’ which range from novelty kids gifts to recycled camper vans (ornamental ones of course) and also a selection of bracelets and necklaces.  In addition we have a new range of wooden crafts from a local craftsman from small candle holders and ornamental fruit to toadstools and earring holders.  All the objects are crafted from locally sourced wood.
