Prince Edward arrived in Dunbar around 1.30 pm and was greeted by Col. Stephen Bunyan, in his role as Deputy Lord Lieutenant of East Lothian, Provost Mrs Sheena Richardson, and Alan Blackie, Chief Executive of East Lothian Council, as well as a reasonable crowd who had gathered on the High Street to see what all the fuss was about. He then met representative trustees of the John Muir Birthplace Trust and he and his equerry enjoyed a guided tour of the building from Liz McLean, Chair of the Birthplace Trust, and Jo Moulin, manager of John Muir's Birthplace.

Several groups who are doing John Muir Awards – from Dunbar Primary School, from Dunbar Grammar School, and from Tynebank Resource Centre in Haddington – had a chance to speak with the Prince and tell him about their projects.

After signing the visitor book the earl left for his next engagement just after 2 o’clock and the High Street returned to quiet normality.
