John Muir was spotted at the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh earlier this week at the 100,000th John Muir Award celebration.

John Muir Trust held the event to celebrate 100,000 John Muir Awards achieved since its launch in 1997.

The John Muir Award encourages people of all backgrounds to connect, enjoy and care for wild places. It has found favour with hundreds of diverse groups across the UK who use it for a variety of reasons – giving structure, highlighting an environmental dimension of their activities, celebrating individual achievements.  A collaborative approach has been instrumental to reaching this landmark, and has led to thousands of people, of all ages and backgrounds, following in Muir’s footsteps.

The special event featured many organisations and individuals who have been involved in the journey of the John Muir Award from its first tentative steps, including representatives and a stall from John Muir's Birthplace.
